In Britain, homeopathic hospitals and out-patient clinics form part of the NHS (National Health Service). Homeopathy is recognised as a medical postgraduate course of study. It is used by the British royal family for over a century. There are five homeopathic hospitals in the UK. Patients at these hospital receive homeopathic treatment after having tried conventional medicines that don’t work.
The development of homeopathy in India dates back to the 19th century during the British colonial era. It was first introduced by an Austrian doctor who treated the ruler of Punjab in 1839. The first homeopathic hospital was established in Kolkata in 1852. In France, more than half of the population use homeopathy. A significant number of French doctors are trained in homeopathy and prescribe homeopathic remedies for their patients.
In Germany, the birthplace of homeopathy, there are thousands of homeopathic practitioners.
In Australia, the Australian Register of Homeopaths (AROH) is the independent non-government national registration board for hundreds of professional homeopaths. Homeopathy is recognised by major health insurance funds for rebates. The Australian Homeopathic Association (AHA) is the largest association of professional homeopaths in Australia.
The popularity of homeopathy is steadily growing in UK, US and Europe. Many years ago, the World Health Organisation had cited homeopathy as one of the systems of traditional medicine that should be integrated into the conventional health care system worldwide. This is already taking place in some parts of Pakistan, India and the Middle East.
